Daniel Grimwood- Schumann: Carnaval; Liszt: Sonata (CD) Shy MartinThe University of York is very fortunate to own this exquisite 1856 Erard London concert grand piano, lovingly restored by Nigel Scaife and tuned to the Bach Lehman temperament by Aidan Delacey Simms. The piano is straight strung allowing greater separation of registers compared to it's more homogenised modern counterpart. The strings are damped from below, rather than above as in a modern piano, a less efficient design that results in pleasing result
The album features a reworking of some of Evanescence's best-loved songs recorded with a full orchestra and electronica combined with the band and Amy Lee's virtuoso piano and voice
The pianist's solos have finger bustin' moments when the keys seem melded into one homogenous mass
II is a non-stop tour de force of improvised rock music
As an extra treat
Applebaum draws upon sonic devices of mid-century exotica and the succinct but dense arranging style of the leaders of the pop orchestras which dominated the hit parades of the 60s and early 70s
Limited Edition 12" to celebarate the 25th Anniversary of the bands classic single from 1996
Because of Covid the Hideout's doors had been closed to the public for several months and the room had to be empty for this performance (insert cheap local band joke here)
Partir to Live (2012) is a non-narrative film experience in sensations
The album contains the single "Bag Lady"
just us playing our new songs in a room with the best mics they could find
